Chelsea Flower Show

Once again time has run away with me, so before the event is completely over here are a few pics from my visit to Chelsea earlier in the week.

We had a beautifully sunny day and shared it with quite a lot of other people! Elbows were sharpened and I did manage to see most of the gardens, although not always from their best angle. There is something to be said for sitting back in the comfort of your own home watching all the tv footage, but of course there is a Chelsea buzz and we did have a lovely day.

I had to be held back from diving straight in to the Monaco Garden. I loved the use of every available space for planting, walls, roof and even in the swimming pool. The orange against the blue and silver planting was even more striking in the flesh.

I surprisingly liked the mix of colours in The Daily Telegraph Garden, I felt myself lifted to the hot and dusty ruins of a foreign country with beautiful natural planting.

I loved the romantic and relaxed planting in the Laurent Perrier Garden, soft pinks and purples with wispy grasses throughout, giving movement and yet a peaceful feel to the garden.

I felt that The Irish Sky Garden was better viewed on tv for really exploring it. Designed on a slope and with the flying pod hidden in the depths at the top, it wasn't easily viewed behind the ropes. However beautiful lush green planting with all the different textures and endless pools definitely tried to entice us in, but it was not to be. Back to the tv to enjoy this one.

Purples and burgundys featured strongly this year, with lots of alliums, salvia everywhere and endless grasses. I came away thinking I must get myself some more grasses. As well as lots more foxgloves.

Stunning Nora Barlow aquilegia, I am still waiting for mine to germinate, but fingers crossed.

So anyway just a a very small taster of what we saw at Chelsea, as always I have to dash, but head over to the hubby's blog for more descriptions and pics
( He's very good with words and far more descriptive than me)
Enjoy the last day of Chelsea.

Summer scents

The wedding at the weekend was an amazing scented affair. Garden roses, sweet peas with rosemary and eucalyptus (with a touch of nigella) created the most beautiful scented bouquets. The car smelt wonderful as I drove off to deliver the bouquets in the sunshine, bliss!!

Off to Chelsea tomorrow, so just a little excitable this evening!

Surprise!!

Well we managed to pull off a brillaint surprise 30th party for my little sister! Completely clueless, she hadn't even clocked the marquee when she was driven in to the drive, it was a fantastic night.

And of course a party wouldn't be complete without some pretty flowers.

So happy birthday little sis xxx

More rain dances required!

We finally had a little rain last night, but for some reason our little corner seems to keep dodging the heavy rain that is predicted. Now ordinarily this is something we love about this little corner, but the ground is crying out for some moisture and my arms are aching from carrying watering cans (better than a gym workout!), so please, please can we have some more!!

That said, there are some beauties in the garden that are learning to fend for themselves brilliantly.

Angelica seems to have suddenly shot up.

The stunning poppy, Patty's Plum, caught me off guard and burst in to flower yesterday, I hadn't even seen that it was showing any colour yet!

 Clematis climbing happily away.

The woods are an amazing mass of blue at the moment.

And, because I am a florist, and this blog has been lacking on actual arrangements recently, here are this weeks flowers for the pub.

What a wedding!!

Kate looked absolutely stunning in her beautiful Alexander McQueen dress.
Delicate english flowers including lily of the valley!! Good guess!

I love that all the flowers and foliage were British sourced and even from their private estates, the abbey looked incredible and I loved the trees.  Here's to locally grown english flowers and a revival of the language of flowers, for those romantic messages in wedding bouquets.

I wish you could smell these ...

The woods where we live smell divine at the moment.

I find it incredible how something so tiny can have such an amazingly powerful scent. Stunning in wedding bouquets in April and May.
The question is will these little beauties be featuring in the Royal wedding flowers???

Happy Easter

Posts have been few and far between of late, as I try and keep my head above water! Juggling my job and tending to all my little babies (seedlings, in case you were wondering!) hasn't left much time for computering, but I promise to try and do better. This weather has been amazing, if not slightly bizarre when you remember we are only in April, but has meant hours of watering in order for anything to stand a chance so early in the season.

However, the garden is looking very lush at the moment with plenty starting to burst in to flower, even if slightly early and lots of seedlings ready to go in the ground. I'm hoping for a very productive flower season, and of course a little rain please, at this rate I will have monkey arms by the end of the summer from carrying all the watering cans!

I love the way the dew collects on the leaves of Alchemilla mollis.
The wisteria is in full flower and looks and smells gorgeous.

My favourite flower/foliage at the mo, the stunning Viburnum opulus, can't get enough of it!

The hubby's alliums are now bursting in to flower but I'll let him tell you about that A Gardeners Life For Me

The simple beauty of Soloman seal.

And a sneak peek at the garage/workshop that is under construction!!
